1 〔いずれにしても〕 at any rate; anyhow; anyway; in any case [event]; at all events; 〔どうであろうと〕 despite everything.

●ともかくやってみよう. Anyway, I'll (give it a) try.

・ともかく食わねばならない. Be that as it may, I have to live.

・ともかく準備だけはしておこう. At any rate, let's at least get ready.

・ともかくここへ来られたのが不思議だ. Be that as it may [Whatever], the wonder is that I'm here.

2 〔「…はともかく」の形で〕

●…はともかく 〔…は別として〕 setting aside [apart]…; aside [apart] from…; not to mention…; not to speak of…; to say nothing of…; let alone…; 〔…かはどうであろうと〕 whether…or not; whatever…; however…

・それはともかく(として) however that may be; be that as it may; be the matter as [what] it may

・費用の問題はともかく setting aside [apart from] the question of expense

・平生はともかく whatever may be the case at normal times

・理屈はともかく leaving logical reasoning out of the question.

●善し悪しはともかくとして, それが事実だ. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the thing, that's the fact.

・冗談はともかく, どうするつもりだ. Joking apart, what do you mean to do?

・食事はともかく, お茶を一杯どうぞ. Have a cup of tea, whether you take dinner or not.
